Michael Burnes provides on-the-ground, senior-level operating and strategic leadership for BASE portfolio companies.  

Prior to joining BASE, Burnes was a VP of Operations and Director of the Great Lakes Group, a family-owned, full-service marine transportation organization providing transportation, logistics, ship repair, and ship building services across the Great Lakes. During his time at the Great Lakes Group, Burnes oversaw a number of operational improvement initiatives as well as the kickoff of the company's fleet renewal program. 

Burnes began his career at Ernst & Young, where he was a Manager in the financial services practice with a focus on regulatory and business operation consulting.

Originally from Boston, Burnes holds a BS from Washington and Lee University and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
